Cultist attack leaves two dead and two injured in Rivers State

Days after over 22,000 cultists embraced amnesty in Rivers state, another cultist attack has claimed two lives and injured two others in the state.

According to PULSE, the attack was orchestrated by a cultist group who claimed to be aggrieved youths from ONELGA. The cultists who were armed were reported to have attacked two soldiers fixing their car at a junction in Ndoni, ONELGA area. The attack left one of the soldiers and a civilian dead whereas the other soldier was injured along with another civilian who also sustained gunshot wounds.

Following this tragic event, Caretaker Committee Chairman, ‘Osi Olisah’ placed a commercial motorcycle ban from 06:00pm - 06:00am within the community.

Last week Tuesday, Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike concluded the first phase of his state amnesty program which saw about 22,430 cult members accept the amnesty. No less than 911 assorted arms, 7661 assorted ammunition and 147 explosives were surrendered by these cultists.

The governor also directed security agencies to go after cultists who refused to embrace the amnesty program, stating that crime would no longer be tolerated in the state.
