'We will force President Buhari to run for 2019 Election'- Former Abia State Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu

The former governor of Abia state, Orji Uzor Kalu has revealed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will force President Buhari to run for presidency in the 2019 General Election even if he refuses to run for re-election.

Kalu during an interview with Channels TV’s SUNDAY POLITICS stated that it was President Buhari's entitlement to run for re-election as past leaders have done the same.

According to the former governor, President Buhari was a “capable man” and at such, he would be running with other candidates who are interested in running under the ruling party (APC).

Kalu further disclosed that there was no "automatic ticket" for the president, stating that even President Buhari would reject an automatic ticket because he is a "democrat".

The 57-year old pointed out that President Buhari was not afraid of any other presidential candidate looking to run under APC, expressing his confidence in the president's ability to defeat any candidate in the party's primaries.

Kalu said;

"President Buhari will run for re-election, not a must but he is going to run. He has to run (and if he says he is not running), we will force him to run".

"Whether he declares or not, it is immaterial. All I know is that APC will have a lot of candidates in 2019 and President Buhari will be running for re-election".

"He has to run; he is the President of Nigeria and he is healthy, what will stop him not to run? He is a capable man, so he will be running with the other candidates who want to run in the APC".

"Even President Buhari himself will reject an automatic ticket, he’s a Democrat to the heart. He will like to see his popularity being tested. He’s not afraid of any candidate coming to run, he is willing to challenge any candidate to challenge him in the primaries. I believe he is still the presidential candidate who has 10 million people behind him and he is not threatened".

"So if you conduct the election tomorrow, 10 million voters will follow him unasked for and he will make a good show in all parts of the South East".

Orji Uzor Kalu joins the increasing number of present and past governors such as Rochas Okorocha, Dave Umahi and more who have expressed their support for President Buhari's re-election in 2019.
