2017 has undoubtedly been one of the greatest years in the career of Real Madrid attacker, Cristiano Ronaldo who picked up the FIFA Best Male Player back in November, won his record-equalling fifth Ballon d'Or earlier this month as well as lifted the FIFA Club World Cup with Madrid.
To round off the year, Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the Best European Sportsperson of 2017 for the second consecutive year, beating the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer to the award.
The award which is voted for by a cast of international news agency and given by the Polish PAP agency saw Ronaldo pick up 159 points compared to the 143 points scored by Hamilton and the 124 points and 113 points scored by Federer and Nadal respectively.
Ronaldo who led Madrid to the Spanish La Liga title, as well as the UEFA Champions League trophy this year, scored a total of 42 goals and 37 assists across both competitions.
The Portuguese attack was also named the 'Best Player of the Year' at the 2017 Globe Soccer Awards held in Dubai on Thursday.
Ronaldo expressed his delight at receiving the award for the fourth time in his career, stating that he was grateful to his teammates, the club as well as all those who voted for him.
According to Ronaldo, those who voted for him should do the same next year because he still had a lot of space for more trophies.
The 32-year old said;
"It is a special moment and I am very happy to receive this award. I would like to thank the coach, my team-mates and Real Madrid. Thanks to the people that voted for me and do the same next year".
"Don't worry I have a lot of space".
Real Madrid who won five trophies in 2017 dominated the Globe Soccer Awards with the club named the 'Best Team of the Year’ as well as the manager, Zinedine Zidane named the 'Best Coach of the Year'. Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes was also named the 'Best Agent of the Year' at the award.
Both Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo had a stellar 2017 with the Spanish champions winning five trophies including the Spanish La Liga, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Spanish Super Cup and the Club World Cup whereas Cristiano Ronaldo picked up individual awards such as FIFA Best Male Player, 2017 Ballon d'Or, European Sportsperson of 2017 as well as the Player of the Year at the Globe Soccer Awards.
