2016 Olympic Games: Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal advances to Quarterfinals of Men's singles tennis event

Defending champion Andy Murray advanced to the quarterfinals of the Men's singles tennis event at the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil after a closely fought battle with Italian Fabio Fognini.

The British star fought back to earn a quarterfinal spot.

Set One:

Andy Murray 6-1 Fabio Fongini

Set Two:

Andy Murray 2-6 Fabio Fognini

Set Three:

Andy Murray 6-3 Fabio Fognini

Murray who defeated Serbia's Viktor Troicki in the first round and Argentina's Juan Monaco in the second round will face American Steve Johnson in the quarterfinals today as he searches for Gold after a very successful Wimbledon campaign last month.

Elsewhere, world number five Rafael Nadal advanced into the quarterfinals of the men's singles competition after defeating France's Gilles Simon in the third round.

The Spaniard who knocked off Argentine Federico Delbonis in the first round and Italy's Andreas Seppi in the second round will face host nation's [Brazil] Thomaz Belluciin in the quarterfinals.

Belluci will look to advance to the semi-finals in front of his home fans but faces a very tough opposition in Rafael Nadal.

The former world number one [Rafael Nadal] will have to bring his A-game to the contest as he searches for Gold at the Olympic Games.
