2016 Olympic Games: Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal edges closer to Gold as they reach Semi-finals of Men’s Singles Tennis Event

Defending champion Andy Murray edged even closer to Gold as he knocked off United States' Steve Johnson in the quarterfinals to advance to the semi-finals of the Men's singles tennis event.

The world number two saw a fierce battle against Steve Johnson who ensured the British would not have it easy. The 29-year eased past the first set before Steve Johnson responded winning the second set and taking the game to a third. Fortunately for Murray, he was able to take the third set despite the fact that Johnson broke.

Andy Murray 4-6 Steve Johnson

Set Three:

Andy Murray 6(7)-6(2) Steve Johnson

Murray will face Japan's Kei Nishikori in the semi-finals today as he edges closer to retaining the gold medal.

On the other hand, Rafael Nadal advanced to the semi-finals after a closely fought contest with host nation's Thomaz Belluci. Belluci took the first set before the Spaniard came roaring back, winning the second and third set.

Set Three:

Rafael Nadal 6-2 Thomaz Belluci

Rafael Nadal will face Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro in the semi-finals today as he edges closer to the gold medal.
